Femmeflo FAQ

Can I use lubricant with the Femmflo sponge?

Yes. It is recommended to use your favourite water-based lubricant to assist with insertion of the sponge if needed. Water-based lubricant is also suitable for use during intimacy whilst the sponge is in place.

Is the FemmeFlo sponge suitable for all women?

The FemmeFlo Intimacy Sponge is suitable for most women, but comfort may vary from person to person. It is designed for convenience, softness, and discretion, especially for those who prefer a period product without a string — such as during swimming, sports, or intimacy. However, if you have a medical condition, are postpartum, or have specific sensitivities, it is always a good idea to consult your healthcare provider before use.

Can you use a FemmeFlo sponge more than once?

No. The FemmeFlo sponge is single-use only and must be disposed of after one use. It should not be washed, reused, or sterilized.

Can the FemmeFlo sponge be used with condoms?

Yes, the FemmeFlo sponge can generally be used during intimacy, including when condoms are involved. However, it is important to understand that the sponge itself does not prevent pregnancy or STIs. Always ensure proper condom use and be gentle during removal.

Will my partner feel the FemmeFlo sponge during intimacy?

The FemmeFlo sponge softens with body temperature and adapts to your natural shape, making it comfortable and usually undetectable. Some partners may feel a slight difference if they are familiar with your body, but in most cases, the sponge stays securely in place and does not interfere with intimacy.

Can I have sex while wearing the FemmeFlo sponge?

Yes. The FemmeFlo sponge sits comfortably higher inside the body, allowing you to stay close and confident during your period without visible strings or discomfort. However, the sponge does not provide contraception or protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It is designed to absorb menstrual flow only.

Can I swim with the FemmeFlo sponge?

Yes. You can swim, exercise, or move freely while wearing the FemmeFlo sponge. It absorbs menstrual flow internally, with no strings and minimal leakage risk when inserted correctly. Be sure the sponge is positioned comfortably and do not exceed 8 hours of wear.

Can I wear the FemmeFlo sponge in a sauna or hot environment?

Yes. The FemmeFlo sponge remains securely in place even in warm conditions such as a sauna or spa. However, heat may increase absorbency rate, so make sure to change the sponge within the recommended time and never exceed 8 hours of use.

Can the FemmeFlo sponge disappear inside my body?

No. The sponge cannot pass through the cervix and cannot “disappear” into your body. Occasionally, it may shift slightly higher, but with gentle bearing down and a clean finger inserted into the removal loop, it can always be retrieved. If you are unable to remove it comfortably, seek medical assistance.

Can I insert the FemmeFlo sponge too deep?

It’s unlikely to insert the sponge too deeply because it naturally sits just past the pelvic floor muscles, near the cervix. That’s where it works best to absorb menstrual flow. If it’s inserted incorrectly (behind the cervix), it may not function properly — in that case, simply remove and reinsert it carefully.

Is a stringless sponge safe to use?

Yes. The FemmeFlo Intimacy Sponge is made from medical-grade, non-latex, non-toxic foam that conforms to your body. It’s designed for comfort and easy insertion and removal. Always follow the usage guidelines and never wear a sponge for more than 8 hours.

Can the FemmeFlo sponge be used with an IUD?

Many people use internal menstrual products with an IUD without issue. Be cautious during removal to avoid tugging on IUD strings. If you’re unsure, consult your healthcare provider before use.

Can I sleep with the FemmeFlo sponge?

Yes, you can wear the sponge overnight for up to 8 hours maximum. Make sure to insert a fresh sponge before bed and remove it as soon as you wake up.

What if I can’t find or reach the loop?

Stay calm. Relax your muscles, bear down slightly (as if during a bowel movement), and use a clean finger to hook the loop. If you still cannot remove it comfortably, contact a healthcare professional.

Can I use FemmeFlo after childbirth or surgery?

Wait until your doctor confirms that you can safely use internal products, typically 6 weeks postpartum or as advised by your healthcare provider.

What is the FemmeFlo sponge made of?

The FemmeFlo sponge is made from soft, medical-grade polyurethane foam, latex-free and non-toxic. It’s designed to be gentle and body-safe.

Is there a risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)?

As with all internal menstrual products, TSS is extremely rare but possible. To reduce risk, never use the same sponge twice, always use clean hands, and remove it within 8 hours. If you experience sudden fever, vomiting, rash, dizziness, or flu-like symptoms, remove the sponge immediately and seek medical attention.

Is it vegan and cruelty-free?

Yes. FemmeFlo sponges contain no animal-derived materials and are not tested on animals.

How should I dispose of the FemmeFlo sponge?

After removal, wrap the used sponge in tissue or its wrapper and dispose of it in a bin. Do not flush it down the toilet.

How should I store unused sponges?

Keep them in their original wrappers, in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.
